What is Teach Greater New Orleans?

Teaching in Greater New Orleans

As a Teach Greater New Orleans practitioner, you will be placed in a high need school. Practitioner teachers will be placed in public schools including charter schools in Orleans, Jefferson and Plaquemines Parishes. Teach GNO practitioners can teach and pursue certification in math, science, middle grades, or special education.

Teach Greater New Orleans teachers will also benefit from:

In addition to participating in district requirements for new teachers like the Louisiana Teacher Assessment Program (LTAAP) and UNO coursework, you will spend a great deal of time outside of school planning lessons, grading work, and developing new instructional strategies.

The typical work day varies, but is usually 7 hours a day Monday-Friday. In addition to teaching, you will also spend work time attending faculty meetings, lunch duty, grading, lesson planning, and attending school sponsored events.

The student population in the Greater New Orleans area varies between 48%-93% African American, 4%-40% Caucasian, 2%-4% Asian, 1%-7% Hispanic with a large percentage of students on free/reduced lunch.
