Why teach?

Heading for Educational Improvement

Although the schools in Greater New Orleans have struggled to meet state standards, our schools have begun to improve.

  • 93% of Louisiana public schools showed improvement during the most recent school improvement cycle.

  • Louisiana 4th graders were the most improved in math in the nation on the most recent National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP).

  • Louisiana 8th graders were among 8th graders from only five states in the nation to improve both reading and math on the most recent NAEP.

  • Louisiana is #2 in the south in rate of increase in teacher pay since 1996.

  • Louisiana leads the nation in restructuring teacher certification programs and building a comprehensive system for colleges of education.

As a teacher, you can make these reforms take hold. Teach Greater New Orleans allows you the opportunity to improve our public schools.

All students deserve to have a challenging, engaging, and high quality education. All students can succeed.

Invest in our future. Teach Greater New Orleans.
