What is Teach Greater New Orleans? Transition to Teaching Scholarships A limited number of full scholarships are available to outstanding applicants who will be teaching in Orleans, Jefferson, or Plaquemines parishes. These Transition to Teaching scholarships are funded by the Department of Education and cover tuition and books valued at approximately $4,400-$4,800. Those receiving the Transition to Teaching scholarships must commit to teaching for three years in a high-needs school in order to be eligible for financial compensation. The selection committee determines scholarship recipients through their written applications and interviews. For those who did not receive the Transition to Teaching scholarships their employing parishes were often able to significantly supplement their tuition. Financial Aid TGNO practitioner teachers may qualify for financial aid. In order to secure financial aid, an applicant must be accepted by TGNO and by the University of New Orleans graduate school as a non-degree seeking student, have at least a 2.5 GPA, and have passed all required Praxis exams. It is up to the applicant to determine their eligibility and to apply for financial aid. All questions about financial aid should be directed to the financial aid office in the administration building room 1005, (504) 280-6689 or by writing: Office of Student Financial Aid, University of New Orleans, New Orleans, LA 70148. |
